Although Spring is often a sign of relief for people who dislike the cold, snowy weather, for others who suffer from allergies.
Luckily, there are a few things you can do to your HVAC system to reduce the amount of allergens in your home this Spring.
Here are 3 tips for doing so:
1. Dust your registers and return vents first, THEN dust everything else:
You may be used to dusting your home once or twice a week...but when was the last time you dusted your registers and return vents?
By not dusting these places, you may be circulating dusty air in your home.
Change your dusting routine to include these first in every room you're cleaning in. We recommend using a damp rag when dusting your home to keep the dust from kicking back up into the room.
This simple change can have a drastic effect on the amount of dust mites and other dust particles in your home that may be causing you to suffer from allergies in the Spring.
2. Get rid of any debris around your indoor AND outdoor units:
Both your indoor and outdoor units should ALWAYS be free or debris. Why? Because both of these units circulate air throughout your home. If these units are covered in debris or dust, you will experience an excess of allergens in your home.
Make sure you are checking for both debris and dust on your units, and clear them away as soon as possible to restore clean air circulating throughout your home.
3. Make sure to check your home for mold:
Did you know that mold thrives in humid, moist environments? This is exactly why you should be taking a look at any ducts, condensate drip pans and drains, and air handlers every few weeks so that you can check to make sure there is no mold.
If you are suffering allergy-like symptoms, it could be because there is mold in your home. However, mold spores don't just cause allergies, they can cause serious illness and even death.
If you do happen to find mold, it needs to be removed right away. You can either remove it yourself or hire a professional to do so.
We hope that these helpful tips help you relieve some of the allergy symptoms you often suffer from during the Spring.
